Weekend in Review

This weekend has been so hectic for me, so I apologize to all for the lack of posting. I'm going to make up for it now.

This weekend was the second weekend of games for La Liga and the fifth for the Premier League. Here's the scoreboard and short statement about the major games that were played this weekend between the two leagues.

Barcelona 2-0 Gefate: Somehow Getafe was in first place in the standings going into this game, and they almost held onto it with barely-missed shots from Getafe in the first half. However, when Messi and Iniesta were subbed in during the 2nd half to join Ibra up front, the entire tempo of the game changed. Ibrahimovic, who had several chances earlier in the game finally netted a cross from Abidal in the 65th minute, giving the Swiss his second goal of the season. Messi, after facing unnecessary strife from Argentina, also put a beautiful header in the back of Getafe's net, assisted by Ibrahimovic. Overall the response from the game, from what I read, was quite good. Barcelona are now at the top of the standings.

Real Madrid 3-0 Espanyol: Granero, Guti, and CR9 all contributed to the win this weekend, putting Real Madrid right behind Barcelona in second place. Granero scored first, 40 minutes in, followed by Guti in minute 77. The scoring was topped off by Ronaldo, who scored in the 90th minute. I was almost going to watch this game, and I might replay it on ESPN360 eventually, but I'm not quite sure I can stomach it. I know I wrote an article defending Ronaldo the other day, but that doesn't mean I want to see him gloat his goal.

Valencia 4-2 Valladolid: David Silva, David Villa, and Mata led Valencia to victory this weekend over Valladolid. The same three also scored goals in Spain's last two WC qualifiers. Silva opened the scoring 10 minutes in, followed by Villa (34'), Mata (45') and Villa again, in the 55th minute. These guys really need to get on a better team. I'm sure Valencia is a good team, but they deserve so much better.

Manchester United 3-1 Tottenham: Ryan Giggs, Anderson, and Wayne Rooney scored for Man U. They won with 10 men after Paul Scholes was ejected at the beginning of the second half.

Manchester City 4-2 Arsenal: I'm only bringing up this humiliating defeat because Arsenal deserves so much more than to lose to Manchester City. Emmanuel Adebayor, who joined Man City this summer FROM ARSENAL had the audacity to score against his team right after STAMPING on Robin Van Persie, a clear red card offense. I'm hating this team more and more every day. I hope every one of their signings backfires on them and Adebayor gets a vicious punishment from the EPL.

Liverpool 4-0 Burnley: I am cursed with loving one of the most inconsistent teams in the EPL, as well as one with a coach who rivals Sir Alex Ferguson of Man U for Biggest Asshole. But Liverpool won today, with a hat trick from Israeli striker Yossi Benayoun and striker Dirk Kuyt. I really hope these boys get their shot together (yes, Torres, I'm talking to you) because I want to see them back at the top of the standings- they're in 5th place right now.

Inter Milan 2-0 Parma: The Italian giants won this weekend with goals from former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o and striker Diego Milito. They are currently placed fourth in the standings after a draw last weekend
