The group stages of the Champions League start on Tuesday and Wednesday. I believe to top two teams from each group (four teams in eight groups, creatively named A-H) go through to the next round, but I can't find any sources validating that. For now we'll say the top two teams go through. You can view all 32 teams and their groups here as well as links to who each team plays and when.
The big game of the week is Barcelona vs. Inter Milan. It just so happens that the two biggest teams, who just so happen to trade strikers this summer, just so happen to be playing each other the first week of the CL. Hmm.
Regardless, each team is playing the tried and true he said-she said. Ibrahimovic started it off when he called out his former team, saying that Barcelona is a better team than Inter Milan, and that Inter should be thankful he played for them. Of course Inter players struck back, saying they were a team and they all contributed to the trophies won during Ibra's time with them.
Now everyone's turning their eyes to the other striker involved in the switch, Samuel Eto'o. Jose Mourinho, coach of Inter, had the audacity to say that Barcelona didn't want Eto'o anymore, and were looking to get rid of him when Ibrahimovic went on the market.
Erroneous on all counts! So of course the Barca camp is coming back, saying no one wanted to sell Eto'o, that he left on his own accord, and that he's still an amazing player.
The big game goes down on Wednesday, and to my knowledge it's not being televised, as CL games this early in the tournament rarely are because there are so many games it's hard to decide which ones take precedence. Obviously Barca-Inter will be televised if they both make it out of the group stages. Since they're playing Dynamo Kiev (Russian) and FK Rubin Kaza (Russian) I'm hoping that's not a challenge for either team.
