After the crushing defeat imposed on his country's team by Brazil, Messi is desperate to play with Barcelona this weekend against Getafe. Although Messi would land in Barcelona on Friday, giving him very minimal time to prep for the game, he does not want to miss any additional games with the club if it's not absolutely necessary. Messi asked coach Pep Guardiola personally if he could go to Argentina early and miss Barcelona's season-opener against Sporting Gijon, but really wants to be in the starting lineup for the game this weekend.
Sport.es is reporting this story, and it sounds like Messi. Even though he'd be arriving in Barcelona roughly 24 hours, give or take, before the game against Getafe, he still wants to play. Like I've said before, this kid puts his club and country above all else. Other players should really try and learn something from him.
