Sounders Defeat United in MLS Tournament

Normally I don't pay attention to the MLS. Somehow, David Beckham bitching and moaning about how he wanted to stay in Milan, and expects to be back there in January of next year and the NY Red Bulls getting slaughtered 6-1 (4-0 at halftime) by FC Barcelona last summer doesn't really do it for me. And, fun fact, only 6 of the 20 men on the US National team play for MLS-based teams. You can see that here.

However, I'm not here to bash the MLS. I'm giving a shout out to my sister, Cindy, who recently moved from Seattle to Sydney, Australia. During her time in Seattle she loved the Sounders and attended the games quite frequently. I gave her a lot of crap when Barcelona came to Seattle and beat the Sounders, so this is my penance. I'm writing about the Sounders.

During their first season in the top flight of the MLS, the Sounders defeated DC United in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, 2-1. Goals were scored by Fredy Montero and Roger Levesque for Seattle during the 2nd half. Clyde Simms scored a late goal but United never capitalized on an equalizer. The Sounders took home $100,000 in prize money and an automatic spot in next season's CONCAF Champions League (CONCAF has a CL? Since when?)

So this is for you, Cindy. Your team is surviving without you. I love you!
