A Step in the Right Direction

The Barcelona that won the treble last season and has gone undefeated in La Liga so far this season made an appearance tonight, crushing Real Zaragoza 6-1. Barcelona controlled the entire game and never stopped creating goal-scoring opportunities. In fact, the team had 3 clear shots on goal in the opening 8 minutes that were saved because of the alertness of Zaragoza keeper Carrizo.

Keita was on fire tonight, netting a hat trick with the help of Messi and Ibrahimovic assisting his goals. Every aspect of Barcelona- the strikers, the midfield, and the defense were on fire tonight. The only slip up, the goal scored by Zaragoza, came under the fault of the defender who left Jorge Lopez wide open in the 78th minute. I think he was Rafa Marquez's mark, but I'll put the blown coverage on the entire defense.

Messi was also able to soundly silence critics in two countries tonight after he performed superbly, netting one goal and being active in several others tonight. Naturally he suffered from multiple-man coverage and cheap swipes at his legs when he was on breakaways, but he had numerous goal-scoring opportunities and no one can deny he played to his highest potential today.
